Snowpocalypse 2010

Nothing will get you back to blogging than being housebound for a few days (and a subtle hint from a friend).

If you have turned on a TV or Internet (or even "gasp" read a newspaper) the last few days you've seen the coverage of the 28+ inches of snow that fell in our area over the last few days.

We've been hunkered down enjoying the snowfall (well except the shoveling part) with Lilah, Beth and Mookie - then Darryl and Seth and Bill (who lost power and came to join the fun and warmth).

Holiday time is here. And with it we had our first local snow of the season last weekend.

As you can see Lilah wanted to get outside and play so quickly she didn't even wait to get her jacket and hat on! (OK that is not exactly what happened, we were really outside for a photoshoot for about three minutes, but it makes a better story).

She really loved the snow and hopefully next time it will stick around more than 24 hours so we can get make some snowmen and have a snowball fight.

Other than that, the week has been fairly quiet, gearing up for the holidays. Yesterday we had our last music class of the session (boo!) but Lilah did better than she ever has, following all the instructors directions and even clapping for the other kids when they did well. I was quite proud of her.

Then we headed off to my company X-mas party where Lilah got her face "partially" painted (as you can see) and I got to introduce her around.
We ended the night when Lilah and Jason lit the candles for the first night of Hanukkah and we read her the story of the holiday. It is amazing how much she remembers, and she was able to tell us that last night we lit two candles which means tonight we will light three. Amazing!

This morning Lilah helped me prep for our semi-annual Hanukkah party at Tara's house. Although her help was mostly "mixer" and "tester" she is getting the hang of cooking with Mommy.

Worth the wait

I know I had promised to update faithfully every day of our vacation, but a bad Internet connection thwarted my efforts. So now we are back in town and connecting with relative ease so I am back on the updating train.

The last few days of our vacation were wonderful and as you probably suspect we ate and relaxed alot more. It also snowed quite a bit on Friday and we got to enjoy the beautiful scenery while in the warm comfort of the house.

As you can see Lilah had a great time helping me cook, carve, and eat everything we were preparing and tried to taste everything raw and cooked as we all prepared our many many meals.

Although we had a wonderful time, it is great to be home and we plan to spend the next two weekends catching up on the house and getting ready for the holidays.

Speaking of getting ready...we will also be getting ready for a new Boig addition to the family. Jason and I are expecting our second Baby Boig on May 30th! With lots of excitement but nervousness you will get to again read about all the fun in and outs of pregnancy + the current Miss Lilah - so get ready it will be blogging fun!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Well at least it will be (a Happy Thanksgiving that is) for most of you by the time you read this. We have a lot to be thankful for this year, not least of all our relaxing vacation!

As we are gearing up to put our turkey in the oven tomorrow, we have been continuing to eat our way through Deep Creek, MD and our well stocked pantry.

Today in addition to doing not a whole lot of anything else, Elizabeth taught me how to make chocolates all afternoon (I learned how to make empanadas yesterday!). As you can see if you look closely into the photos we filled the refrigerator with lots of different homemade treats. Lilah got to sample her new favorite which I am calling "Chocolate, marshmallows and peanuts mush!" Trust me it is much tastier than it sounds.

We also did take some time to try to get the kids outside to exercise, but it turns out that the state parks were closed today, so running around the backyard and then playing "Toddler Cage Match" in Alexander's pack n play was the best we could do to wear them out.

Off to a movie and then bed so we can all be well rested for tomorrow's hard days work of eating and (you guessed it!) eating.

Wait where's Lilah?

It seems that I have taken more photos of Pie (Alexander) then Lilah the last two days, so I thought I would share some of our current vacation before I move on to September.

Also a big shout out to Beth who is much warmer that we are today celebrating her birthday with family and friends in Atlanta

We are having a great time relaxing in Deep Creek and Lilah and Alexander are having a fantastic time playing together. This trip and last weekends birthday party are the first time that Lilah has really played well with other toddlers than the one she spends her days with. It has been great for us to see her development.
Besides playing we have all been doing a lot of eating and baking and then some more eating. You can see the Pie loves Santiago's famous waffles.

So with all that eating we have made sure to get in our daily workout. You can see Lilah practicing some of the new exercises on the Wii Fit Plus that we got right before we headed off on vacation.
Tomorrow we start our Thanksgiving cooking and some chocolate making fun.

Moving on to a quick look back at September (that will get us all the way to my last blog post at the end of August!) we ended the month with Lilah's' second birthday. It was more like a birthday week as she got to celebrate her actual birthday, mid-week at the park with all her friends there and then a big birthday of our family and friends at the end of the week.

For the other celebration in September we headed up to NJ to celebrate Lilah's Aunt Ashley's graduation from graduate school. Lilah met some horses for the first time and had a wonderful time feeling the coy fish at my Aunt's house.

It's Fall! (well it was when these things happened)

October in the DC metro area is a fun time that always bring out the best things about fall.
Repeating the fun time from last year we headed out with a larger group of adults (and kids!) to the Butler's Orchard Pumpkin festival at the end of October.
Lilah got to experience her first time in a moon bounce and although we were not sure how she would like it, you can see from her expression the biggest problem we had was getting her out to go pick the pumpkins.
We also enjoyed eating carmel apples (well I did at least) and petting the animals they had.

The night before that we attended Boo at the Zoo where they open up the National Zoo to allow kids to go trick 'r treating by moonlight.

Lilah dressed up as a clown, although without makeup it is a little hard to tell. She was cute no matter what you think she was.
Lilah's grandma also visited in mid-October and we had fun attending music class and hanging out in the nice weather.

We also kicked off October with Lilah's second birthday party where Mickey Mouse (aka Uncle Steven) made an appearance and lots of fun was had by all. It was wonderful to see so many kids running around and playing together (while the adults ate and drank the day away of course!).

Wow - we are to September already. Well that is for another day (tomorrow!). Then we will be all caught up on adventures and I look forward to giving updates on "funny things Lilah has said in the past three months". As well as some more photos from our Deep Creek vacation.

We're back!

After a three month hiatus I am finally back to the MBB blog.

With a goal to write every day of our Thanksgiving vacation I figure we will be caught up by the time we head back home on Saturday. We are spending a week in Deep Creek, MD with the Reiches unwinding and relaxing with food, tv, food, an amazing view and did I mention food?

So starting today and heading back (throughout the week) to the end of August where I left off on our Lilah adventures.....

Today finds us at Deep Creek Lake where Lilah and Alexander are having fun playing together and Lilah is learning lots of new skills, including how to play Guitar Hero from her dad. As you can see she is getting pretty good at it. We expect her to be beating all of us by the end of the week.

Yesterday we helped Jordan celebrate his second birthday (Happy Birthday Jordan!). The party was super fun and Lilah loved it because she found all new toys to play with. As you can see Lilah tends to like other kids toys more than hers "new toys!".

We have also been enjoyed the warm days so far this winter by spending as much time outside as possible This is Lilah "helping daddy" to mow the lawn last weekend.

Last weekend we also visited more recent baby kate elisabeth parker, where we are happy to report that Lilah was very gentle and didn't poke Kate in the eye at all (which is more than I can say for the first time she met Alexander).

In early November, we headed out to Lancaster PA with Lilahs's Bubbe and Aunt Sarah for "Joint Birthday Weekend" where Bubbe and I celebrate our bday that are only a week apart. It was Lilah, however, who had the most fun at the Children's museum, the petting zoo and of course the obligatory big waffle.

We started off November right though, in NY with the NYC Marathon where Darryl was one of 52,000 runners to take on the amazing feat. With a great time and a great finish Lilah got her "cheer" on and her naps in. She loved the subway and talked for a week after about wanting to go on the train. Good thing we took her to a Caps game shortly after.

With one month down, I'll end there tonight, but will be back tomorrow to recap October!

Welcome Katherine Elizabeth Dailey & Matthew Kyle Sward! and other semi-important things

So it may look upon first glance that Lilah is singing karaoke in this photo, but if you look at little closer you will notice it is a flashlight which Lilah learned to use during last week's almost 24 hour power outage at our place!

That said ... I can't use that or any other darn good excuse that I can come up with (and I have lots!) for not updating the blog in nearly a month. But I am back and will try and highlight a few milestones of the past few weeks.

Besides learning to draw with her flashlight, Lilah is also coming into her own as a toddler artist with her crayons. If you look very close at the first pic - you can see that she does not limit herself to the easel (hint: look at the stool she is standing on). Good thing crayola makes washable crayons!

Lilah (and her family) have also been enjoying the local summer activities such as the Montgomery County fair where Lilah got to experience cows, sheep, and bunnies and her parents got to experience their first fried oreos (first and last for this parent!).

This weekend we head out to the Rockville Wine festival - hoping to see less animals and slightly better food. Hoping NOT to see Kate Gosselin who just moved into the neighborhood.

With all of her activity, Lilah does occasionally mugging for the camera and get some sleep. That doesn't mean her parents stop taking photos those...

MOST importantly...one week ago today (about 30 min ago) the newest addition to our crazy DC/VA/MD was welcomed into the world - Katherine (Katie) Elizabeth Dailey!

And just three days later she was showing off.... (take that Alexander!).

In case you were wondering what part Miss. Lilah had in Katie's arrival, just a few days before she was so excited that Anne had a baby in her belly that she wanted one too!

AND one month ago yesterday Matthew Kyle Sward, a second to newest addition arrived as competition to Alexander for Lilah's affections :).

So welcome Matty and Katie and welcome back readers....

Close to home, Close to fun!

Taking a short break from what I have dubbed "Summer Travel Fest 2009" we have enjoyed the last two weekends at home, with lots of fun and festive things to do.

July 4th weekend kicked off with RNO, otherwise known as the "Red Necked Olympics" hosted by one of my friends from the office. Dressing to impress Lilah watched her parents try to master such games as the "Tire Toss" and "Blow that Soda Can!". Although we left shortly before the" Wife Carry" a fantastic time was had by all and brought back memories of the annual vacuum throwing contest of summers past.

Then on the actual 4th, we headed over to the Takoma Park parade with Gayle, Erik and Jordan (thankful as always that they invite us to cool stuff or we would never know to go!). We got there early enough to get a great seat, and with only a small CVS run for Lilah's first Hello Kitty band aid, we watched the parade amazed at all that Takoma Park has to offer (a small sampling of that in the photo to the left).

Back home for a quick rest, we ventured over the bridge and into Virginia to watch the fireworks from an undisclosed location. Luckily this undisclosed location was on the 16th floor of an enclosed building - close enough to see the fireworks but far enough away no kids were scared by the noise. Oh yea and the undisclosed location also happened to include Lilah beau Alexander - who knew?!

The week itself was also eventful as Jason and I celebrated our 7th Anniversary and Lilah was treated to serenade of Sesame Streets "Put Down the Duckie" as performed by Darryl.
Then, always amazing us with new things she does, Lilah performed her famous "I don't want to take a nap" act on Friday - finished the evening by (on her own!) going over to the couch, getting herself a pillow, putting it on the dining room floor and going to bed for the night about an hour and a half before her normal bedtime.

In case you were wondering she has also mastered the art of the phrases "NO MOMMY," "NO DADDY," and "NO DIAPER CHANGE!". Speaking of which a quick milestone of Lilah choosing her own potty also occurred this week. Her vocabulary has grown so much in the past few weeks, that we can now understand about 75% of what she says - it's fantastic.

This past Saturday was spent mostly outside, working around the house and having fun. It would be remiss not to mention however the Cheeburger, Cheeburger-off that occurred Saturday night where all the Boig's were in attendance. With video to come later, the basic premise was that Santiago would order and pay for a burger (ordering anything on it he would like) and Darryl would eat it. With a small audience of well-wishers Lilah took the opportunity to show her dislike of shoes running around the back room they hid us in only in socks. (Thank you Stephanie for getting her shoes back on!). Did I mention she also takes her shoes off in the car, in the house basically anyplace except when we try to get her to take a bath - then she wants to keep everything on.

The last stop on our weekends adventure was a paaaaarty at our place on Sunday in honor of the Dailey's and there upcoming new addition of a baby girl. After a fun and filling time (YUM Pavlova) Lilah took a late nap and Jason and I sat on our clean deck, on a clear and beautiful day, eating Thai and enjoying ourselves.

With more fun in the sun (and on the beach) ahead of us this summer keep following along as more exciting adventures (and new words/phrases) are bound to come.

NJ and the Beach - and not even at the same time!

As the Boig family continues with our "traveling" summer we have been a bit too busy to review and cut the video from Ireland - so Part Duex will have to wait a bit as we enjoy non virtual summer experiences.

Speaking of! The last two weekend have been fun travel ones with the "girls" (that would be Lilah and me) visiting my mom in NJ last weekend. We headed up after music class with Lilah being the perfect traveler and sleeping till she was about 20 minutes from my mom - waking up in enough time not to be cranky when we got there! After spending time running around the mall, running around the backyard (in puddles) and running around the house she finally crashed sleeping about half the way back as well. Fun and good travels were had by all!

Then this past weekend, the Boigs, Reiches, Eagle/Diamonds and my sis headed out to Assateague Island for two nights of fun in the sun (and sleeping on the ground). Lilah loved the tent which she calls her "little house" and loved peeking out of it and putting her stuffed animal to bed.

She also had a great time at the beach! And don't worry - we made sure she was fed and hydrated including the now infamous "Banana, + Sand eating scandal of 2009"

After a long morning at the beach on Saturday we headed back to our campsite to find the Reich's had arrived.
We attempted to wash the sand off Lilah in the smallest baby pool ever - but she was no cooperating and so Alexander had to show her how it was done. (for the record this pool now lives with Alexander's parents).

After every had a quick rinse off Lilah got to experience her first canoe ride! She was wondering and even wore her Spongebob Squarepants life preserver with pride. OK , so maybe we WERE lapped a few times by Beth, Darryl, Santiago AND Mookie - but hey they had an extra set of four paws in their canoe. Unfortunately with all those hands and paws....there were no cameras - maybe next time.

Then back to the campsite for some much needed rest and food. Lilah spend some time showing her animals around the camp site in her new and favorite past time of walking her wagon around and around and well around.

There might also been some photos taken of children/dogs holding EMPTY! bottles of beer or Mike's Hard Lemonade, but due to the fear of Uncle Steven calling DYFUS on all of us - those have been shredded (or only shared on a "need to know" basis). So you get this photo of a passed out Mookie instead - super cute.

Heading back to the beach the next morning after a tasty, although sandy, breakfast Alexander tried out his new "floating on air" trick to avoid any possible contact with the water. Then off to Big Al's Pit Beer (and turkey) BBQ and home to hot bath and shower and fresh raspberries off our bushes that seemed to have fruit overnight. Good thing Lilah loves raspberries!

Overall a great to weekend to mark almost the middle of summer. Up next...RNO (you will have to wait till the next posting to deceiver that!), 4th of July festivities, Bugs Bunny under the stars and more.

Ireland! Part 1 - The Photos

Welcome back to us!

OK so we actually got back LAST week, but it took some time to pull together our photos, get over jetlag and generally get ourselves together enough to put two sentences together and update the blog.

I split the Ireland adventures into two postings...this one for photos and the next will be video.

To recap, Ireland was amazing and Lilah was even more amazing with her laid back travel attitude and generally flexibility.

We (Mommy, Daddy, Lilah, Uncle Steven, Aunt Sarah, Bubbe and Will) left Newark, NJ May 30th on a 7pm flight arriving in Dublin at 6am local time (1am DC time). After the three hour drive to NJ and the six hour flight (of which she slept three hours) Lilah was ready for a nap in the car which she got as we tried to navigate our way out of Dublin, driving on the wrong side of the road and learning what a "roundabout" really meant.

Sleeping through our first stop in Glendalough, Lilah woke up in time for lunch getting her first taste of what would be a week of "chips" (fries). After lunch we headed to Kilenny where we would be spending our first night. We visited the Kilenny Castle where the above photo of Jason and Lilah was taken - can you tell we hadn't slept in 36 hours by this point! Lilah had a fantastic time running around the grounds of the castle, then to dinner and BED for everyone. The first photo is Lilah, rested the next morning after over 12 hours of sleep. The one to the left is right before heading to bed - can you tell what a trooper she was! (also can you tell how far north Ireland it that it stays light there till about 11pm......)

After some good sleep we all headed off to Waterford where Lilah showed off her moose to the Waterford bear as well as more "chips" for lunch. We then drove to Cobh (pronounced Cove). While the rest of us were amazed at the beautiful countryside, Lilah settled into what would be her MO for the trip - sleeping while we drive and being in a good mood as we explored.

And in case you are thinking at this point "Wow they threw her in the car and dragged her everywhere - poor kid." do not fret - Lilah got plenty of exercise time with her Aunt and Uncle throughout the trip. Running, kicking, throwing and sometimes even climbing on hundred year old rocks as you will see in a photo below.

Before leaving Cobh we checked out the last place the Titanic left before it sunk and got our first "Boig Family Photo" of the trip. You might also be wondering how come you don't see any rain - it is Ireland after all. Thankfully we have been told we had the best seven (out of eight) days Ireland has seen in 10 years.

Day three brought us right outside of Cobh to Cork and one of the major highlights of the trip - Fota Wildlife Park.

You may notice that these animals do not seem to be in cages - that would be because they were not. Only the ones that might eat us fully in one swoop were restricted with many of the rest free to roam about.

You can imagine all of our delight with this experience - Lilah taking it all in and loving every minute of it. She surprised all of us when - without prompting she yelled "Zebra" at the top of her voice point to EXACTLY where the zebra was. Amazing the things she remembers.

After Fota we headed to lunch and then over to the Jameson Experience which, after realizing we had to wait an hour for a tour, decided to purchase our goods and ditch the rest of the "Experience".

Which gave us enough time to head to Blarney Castle where Lilah got some good shut eye with Bubbe and the rest of us climbed up and up and up to kiss the Blarney Stone. (Full disclosure - kissing was only done by Jason, Aunt Sarah and Uncle Steven).

We also played a game of "Where's Waldo" with each of us popping out different widows in the castle to see how high we could go with Lilah still seeing us.

Finally heading back to our hotel on Day 3 (wow that was all one day!) Lilah got her first Irish bath. You would never know from this photo how much she hates baths - both Irish and American.

Day 4 was our scenic day of exploring starting at Drombeg Stone Circle where Lilah made friends with the rocks, while we debated if you could actually tell the time by the way the stones were set.

Giving new meaning to the phrase "rock hugger."

Heading out from Drombeg we hit highlight two of the trip - the Ring of Kerry. The most beautiful place I have seen in my life, Lilah woke up from her mid day nap long enough to enjoy the amazing sites...take the second Boig Family Photo...go to the beach...and then fell asleep again.

At least she knows her priorities!

Bunking down in Killarney that night, Lilah proved that naps do work as she climbed up and down and up and down the stairs of the hotel, while the rest of us were just looking for our rooms.

On Day 5 we started heading north on the west side of Ireland, stopping at the Cliffs of Moher on our way to Ashford Castle.

Lilah once again reminded us to save our energy for what lie ahead.

Being every bit as stunning as you could imagine (or view if you click on the link to the web site), Lilah got to be a true princess wander the Castle grounds, enjoying exploring the landscaping and sitting in the "big girl chairs" they had spread all around.

We spent Day 6 at the Castle taking in every activity and seeing everything that was available to us, but then sadly as it got close to dinner time we started our trek off the coasts of this amazing country and inland in the direction of Dublin.

Night 6 and early Day 7 spend in Athlone for sleeping and eating (yummy Italian) we headed out early for our last full day in Dublin. Unfortunately our last day brought rain, which did not deter us from visiting Guinness and Trinity College, but did hamper the photo taking for that day.

Getting to bed early to head out early, we left Ireland on Day 8 leaving behind fantastic people and stunning landscape but bringing home some great memories. As good as any toddler could be, Lilah held out well during the seven hour plane ride home playing and walking in between her parents - who only wished maybe she would get a tiny bit tired for a nap.

Getting home at 1pm local time (6pm Ireland time) the Boigs wished goodbye to the rest of the family and headed back to Maryland around 4pm. Lilah gave one big wave and then fell asleep at 4:02pm sleeping straight through until 4:02 am (she did think it was 9am so you can't blame her too much).

Speaking of sleeping I am headed off to do some of that right now. Videos and Part II to come later this week as well as an update on all the words Lilah can say and all the sassiness she can give!

Trains, Planes and Automobiles

It's summer! (Technically spring, but the summer season has started.) With summer always comes lots of travel and outdoor excitement for our family. We take advantage of every adventure we can and every sunny (not too humid) day that we get.

The past two weeks have been an excellent example of this. Two weekends ago we took a short hop on Southwest (my FAVORITE airline - which says a lot since I hate to fly) to Connecticut for Lilah's Aunt Sarah's graduation. Yea Sarah!!

Lilah did amazing on the plane, keeping her parents busy while amusing everyone sitting behind us. While in CT, we visited one of my co-workers places, enjoying time with his kids and giving Lilah lots of experience playing with "new toys". You can see she learned how much fun dressing up can be.

She also mugged it up for the camera as usual.

The first photo is from the Sunday morning after a tasty but late night out at dinner. The second one from part way through the graduation when Lilah showed her New Jersey style eating her way through a not-so-tasty bagel at the graduation.

Getting back into town, this last week was lots of fun. My Aunt Karen and Uncle Fred were kind enough to come in and watch Lilah while our nanny was on vacation. Lilah got lots of great outdoor time and Jason and I got to work at home - getting more work done then a day at the office.

Celebrating the amazing weather this holiday weekend, we did a lot of gardening and got outside as much as we could. These are of Lilah enjoying the local park by our house. She is a bit of a daredevil - but at least learning to count 1, 2, 3 before taking off down the slide!

Yesterday we all took off for the zoo, meeting up with our favorite kid family's. We also attempted to do the impossible task of getting all three kids (Lilah, Alexander, and Jordan) to look forward and smile together. But this photo is pretty cute anyway!

After 18 months of debating, Jason and I finally admitted that the 20 second video's our camera could take just weren't holding their own with our amazing Miss Lilah. So today we purchased the Flip Ulta HD. Blogger compresses the video so it doesn't look so HD here (if you Facebook you can see the HD quality on what I posted there).

Anyway here comes the video...

This one is just plain silly, but it made us laugh and we hope it will do the same for you. I just titled it "Lilah and the Banana" (or as she calls it "NANNA".

OK this one is just as silly. Lilah has a case of the giggles! (It might be because her mom - that's me! is going "Blahlalalalalalalala" with her tongue. You will see Lilah try to recreate that part way through the video).

In case you have ever asked yourself "Self, what is a typical day with the Mighty Mighty Boigs?" here is a small peek into a few things.

Lilah continues to realize she can stick one toy on top of another and haul it around the house. To the left you can see "Pretty" being put on top of her lawnmower. And then a serious of action shots as "Kitty" gets a ride on her block cart. (Is it just because she is a girl that all names end in "y"? Well at least it's not Prettie and Kittie and Candie!).

We have also entered the world of climbing and daredevil behavior. Lilah will climb on just about everything - steps, walls. blocks, counters. Here you can see her after a successful climb into one of our outdoor Adirondack chairs
Thankfully I did not have to climb into mine to enjoy it.

And lest you think it is all fun and games in the Boig household. Here is Lilah being put to work sweeping the floors with her nightly chores. (OK before everyone gets upset at us making our 19 month old do hard labor what is really going on is Lilah asserting her even newer found independence and grabbing the broom out of Mommy's hand to show that she can "do it better").

So it's all fun and games until someone wants to sweep the floors!

Happy Earth Day to all!

Before what I can promise will be a full and long update I wanted to pimp my favorite Earth Dy Nature Conservancy blog entry: Raise an Organic Toast to Earth Day. So join me in what can prove to be one of the easier (and more fun!) ways to celebrate this day.

So...where have we been? Why haven't we updated. If you are a frequent reader of the MBB blog then you know long stretches in between updates signifies crazy fun events on our part. So here goes April...

We at the Boig household spend all of April 1st waiting on pins and needles to be "fooled" by one, two or all three of the Reiche's (yes even Alexander can be a trickster when he wants to be). We got the biggest trick of all when NO trick was played on us for the entire day. That makes us even more nervous for next year when Lilah can actually talk and Alexander will be able to walk.

After surviving the "Day of the Fools" unscathed we spend the next weekend celebrating my mom's bday with some sushi making/eating fun. Lilah of course slept though all the "making" part of the night and woke up just in time for the "eating." That is one smart little girl.

We then continued to what I have now dubbed "Passover Mania," which for those of you who do not know are two nights of Passover fun, with four glasses of wine and tasty food each night. The first night of Passover was spend over at the Eagle/Diamond's where, as you can see from the photos, Lilah had her first matzoh and even found the afikoman hidden in a very very secret and hard to find place called the top of the den table.

The next day Lilah went off to the nanny's and Jason and I stayed home to cook, clean and go to the spa (what does that have to do with Passover - nothing but we wanted to enjoy our day off!). That night we had 17 folks over for some food, fun and Seder. You can see that Lilah especially enjoyed the food and as they say "a good time was had by all."

The next day Lilah had her 18th month check up, where we learned she is still tall and still has a big head. I am still trying to figure out the tall thing with my tiny head - so all suggestions welcome.

Using her big head, Lilah figured out that something more fun than playing with Kitty was to strap her favorite toy Pretty (my 20 year old Preemie Cabbage Patch) to Kitty's back and ride her around the room. What will she think of next!

That brings us pretty close to this past weekend and our trip down to SC. Logging over 1,000 miles the Boig's headed down to Chapel Hill, NC this past Thursday learning that a child strapped in a car seat does count for HOV3 - whoohoo. Friday morning we had brunch with my Uncle Bob and Aunt Jackie who you may recall we visited last summer for Uncle Bob's birthday. After yummy lox and bagels, we continued to head south to Rock Hill, SC taking a "shortcut" that can only be described as the longest shortcut of all time. Thankfully we arrived in time for Jason's cousin Steve's rehearsal dinner. After a quick trip over to the hotel to stretch and let Lilah jump on the bed a bit, we headed over to Jason's Aunt Carole's house where Lilah got to play with her second cousin Izzy (Isabella Rose). We were VERY proud of her sharing as Izzy is quite a bit younger than she is.

Lilah has spent the last few weeks working with Jason and I on colors and she was able to show off her skills to everyone by playing with the pool balls on Carole's table. She has purple, orange and yellow down!

Back at the hotel we got a good night's sleep, well some of us did. Lilah kicked some of us (Jason!) in the face a lot during the night. Thankfully he wasn't too bruised up for the wedding and Lilah got to enjoy some of the morning sun off our balcony before we headed out for the main wedding event.

The wedding (reminder Jason's cousin Steve's wedding!) was held at Landsford Canal State Park. I tried to find a site online that showed just how beautiful this park was, but nothing seemed to do it justice. It was a gorgeous day and a beautiful place for a small, quiet and lovely wedding. Such a nice place, that Lilah wanted to spend the entire time exploring and mastered one of her current favorite words "walk!" (which is promptly followed by grabbing one of our hands and pulling us in the direction she wants to go). After the wedding we spend some day taking photos by the lake as it was a perfect site to do so. This photo is Lilah and Jason with "Grandma Boig" also featured in last summer's NC trip update.

After the wedding, the reception was held at a separate park which, to Lilah's joy, included a swing set with a slide. She enjoyed running around the part and trying to make us catch her.

As you might suspect she didn't each much...but as soon as we got back to the hotel decided she had the late night munchies!

After breakfast on Sunday, we headed over for a day in Charlotte, where we enjoyed the Discovery Place (Lilah got to practice her colors again with the fish) and the ImaginOn where the photos above were taken.

Heading to our last hotel, Lilah decided it was time to play hike and seek behind the see through curtains. As Jason and I wondered where she got her energy from, she feel asleep taking her first and only non-car nap of the trip!

After one last night of being kicked in the eye (poor Jason again!) we headed back to DC with a quick stop of in Chapel Hill again to lunch at Foster's Market (best cookbooks ever) and a bit north of Richmond for me to experience my first Waffle House. My only previous WF experience was watching it through the eyes of "My Breakfast with Fred". What do I have to say about it now? Yummy.

So we are back in MD, looking forward to a quiet week and hopefully even quieter weekend where we will catch up on...well everything!

New Shoes, New Haircut, New Skills! (oh and she is famous too)

Lilah is growing is all kinds of ways these days! Her hair, her feet and her skills - so we tackled all three of those this weekend.

Lilah was getting tired of her hair being in her eyes, and we were getting tired of trying to hold it all back with clips. So off we went to get it cut and as you can see from the next photo, Lilah is much happier with her new hairdo.

After playing in the mud on Saturday, we also realized it might be time to get Lilah some new, more mud-friendly shoes. Thankfully we were able to get some good advice on age appropriate, easy to clean ones and she is ready for all the puddle jumping spring can bring.

For those of you who don't know, Lilah's favorite song is the closing melody on Micky Mouse Clubhouse called "Hot Dog". She loves to watch just the song over and over and over again, dancing and singing along.

She loves it so much, that she finally got tired of waiting for me to press the "repeat button" and learned how to work my computer herself!

On the "It's always good to pimp out your child for a good cause" note, Lilah is not featured on one of The Nature Conservancy pages on planting native - a cause I very much believe in and abide by as we are working to build a native bird habitat in our back flower garden.

Lilah Loves Disco (and blocks and Pi!)

This was weekend was a busy fun one for Lilah and all!

Lilah had her regular music class on Friday, supplemented by the new toddler craze sweeping the nation Baby Loves Disco on Saturday. As you can see from the photos Lilah had a good time shaking it down with Jordan and enjoying the bubble "rain" that came from above.

We had a great time and even got my mom, who was visiting, discoing it up a bit!

Then on Saturday night we headed off to the Reich's to celebrate Alexander Day (otherwise known as Pi Day). For those who don't know Alexander's nickname is "Pie" due to his cuteness and being called "sweetie-pie, cutie-pie" and of course "honey-pie" (OK I made up that last one!). And in case you are wondering what Pi Day is - well check it out here: http://www.piday.org/. You can see how cute Pie looks with his official Pi Day onesie and cake.

Lilah partied so much that by the end of Saturday, she decided to hang out and relax in the most comfortable place she could find - Alexander's car seat. This is ironic to anyone who has ever ridden in a car with Lilah and heard the struggles to get her into her own seat :).

On Sunday we had planned to head out to swim class, since we had missed that last two weeks. However, since we had missed the last two weeks, we didn't realize class this weekend had been canceled due to a swim meet! So we got there just in time to turn around and get back in the car. We decided to wander around Olney, MD (where her class is) and found what might soon become my new favorite garden store and market - GoodEarth.

After a quick trip home to change out of our swim clothes, we headed out to dinner and dessert with some friends. Thankfully Lilah enjoyed the hat more than the dessert and we were able to let her rest her tired self in her own bed that night.

And since it's been a while, some video of Lilah's amazing block action. Two warnings here: 1. I don't have video editing software and our camera only takes 30 second video. Sooo sorry for the logo in the middle of the screen, but it was that or you were going to have to click on 4 videos to see all the action. 2. It's a bit choppy as I learn to edit video together.

Sometimes blog posts have some space in between them becuase we get super busy or there just isn't much to say. This time, it's becuase I have been avoiding posting out of fear of not finding the right words to write.

So here goes nothing....

Last Saturday, February 28, we had to make the hardest decision of our lives to put our amazing, sweet Hunter to sleep. As I mentioned on my last post, we found out on the 25 about his cancer and he went downhill very quickly from there. By Thursday evening he was not able to eat hard foods, Friday any food at all, and Saturday morning he was not able to keep water down. We took him into the Metro Emergency Animal Clinic (MEAC) in Rockville around 1:30 on Saturday and within an hour it was clear he was in extreme pain and even drastic measures were only going to prolong his life a few days.

There is no way to express the sadness that we felt making the final decision, but we know it was the right one allowing him the dignity he deserved. We are thankful and lucky that we had our friends rally around us, with many of them there to say goodbye to Hunter and fill the room with love. Jason and I were with him in his final moments and shared with him all that he had given to our lives and meant to us in these past four years.

I have never been treated with as much respect as the MEAC gave us. The staff and especially the vet that we worked with never pressure us, allowing us to make our own decisions and letting us know she would honor whatever we decided. She was also honest and made it OK to let Hunter go. We occupied a private room for many hours, provided the time and privacy needed to make a difficult decision. I can not thank them enough for how wonderful they were.

Hunter came to us via the DC-Lab Rescue: http://lab-rescue.org/index.asp who is now much in need of help due to the economy. They provide us with the perfect dog for us promising a companion who would "sit on the couch and smoke a cigar with us." (not that we smoke!). Through one move, one baby, several jobs and lots of travel Hunter was always his sweet and caring self - showing that all rescue dogs are worth rescuing.

Thank you to all of our friends who made the day a little more bareable and our family and friends whose support this past week has been unsurpassed. The house is a bit quieter and a bit lonlier, but your caring and love has been getting us through.

February Wrap-Up

February has flown by, so much that I realized I haven't posted in three weeks! (Good thing Jason posted the cute video to keep everyone coming back).

The last few weeks have been nothing short of insane with great times as well as sad times. The great times first....

Jason and I usually don't do much to celebrate Valentine's day, but this year was a lot of fun for the whole family. On V-day itself, Tara and Casey (her new doggie) came over and babysat Lilah while Jason and I got to go out for some grownup time. Lots of mexican and crepes later we rolled in to find Lilah soundly asleep for the rest of the night!

Then the next night Lilah and Alexander exchanged their first valentines day gifts, with much fun had by the parents. Lilah made Alexander a onesie that said "I choo-choo choose you" and Alexander provided Lilah a photo of himself for her room, green M&Ms and some new PJs (presented in a Victoria Secrets bag - parents have to stay sane somehow!).
Then this past weekend Lilah's five cousins came down to visit. Both families had a wonderful time together and Lilah and her cousin Reese spent a lot of time side by side.

Unfortunately, that ended the great times and has put us into some sad times. On Sunday night during the Oscars, Hunter had a small fainting/seizure spell. He had another on Monday and by Tuesday morning we were at the vet running every test they could think of.

At about the same time Lilah came down with a bad cold, that turned into croup and although she will be 100% OK by Monday it is a bit scary if you have never seen it before.

So yesterday was spent at pediatricians and vet's offices working to make everyone well again. For Lilah that will not be too hard - a few oral steroids and restful days (oh and two incidents of puking on Mommy if you must know) and she will be just fine. Unfortunately we are not so lucky with Hunter. He was diagnosed with a small tumor on his heart and spleen. The one around his heart is causing fluid to leak out and push on his heart - which is what is causing the passing out. We are researching, talking to vets and doing what we can - but it is not a fully treatable condition and we are faced with some very sad realities. He is a fantastic dog and we will love him and enjoy him for as long as we can.

This weekend we plan to keep it low key with some friendly dinner and time around the house keeping everyone calm and relaxed. Realizing March is just around the corner...

With the weather getting colder (except this past weekend!) and a bit of random snow, we have been staying inside a bit more than usually the last few weeks. This means lots of entertaining for Lilah - times when she entertains us and times when we have to entertain her!

Lilah has gotten very good at what the clinical folks call "independent play." She is usually happy to sit with a book for a bit, play in her kitchen or sometimes just run in circles around the house. However, when she wants your attention, she is sure to get it as she is getting more vocal each day. Mastering the word "please" Lilah knows that it will get her just about anything and so she uses it for basically any occasion.

Jason and Darryl are in the process of building her a Leggo table, but the Leggos delivered before the table was completed so Lilah has discovered the joy of putting things together only to take them apart again! You can see in the background that Hunter is worn out just watching all her activity,

This past weekend was a busy one for the whole Boig family. On Thursday night my sister and mom arrived from their trek cross country - delivering my sister safely to DC where she will be for the next six month interning at The World Bank - hurray! Then on Friday we had music class, followed by a trip to Aunt Ashley's apartment where Lilah ran around for at least an hour from room to room to make sure it was satisfactory for her Aunt to live in.

On Saturday Lilah had her first non family non friend babysitter in over a year, while Jason and I attended a most amazing dinner with Erika and David that they had bid on in an silent auction. Lilah took it in stride and was fast asleep, full and happy when we arrived home.

Sunday was a day of sports. For those following along on my Twitter feed you have seen the photos - but in case you missed it we attended the Caps hockey game around 12:30 where Lilah proceeded to fall asleep early in the third period.

We then headed home to clean up and get ready for Superbowl, where we had a few of our favorite (and Lilah's favorite) folks over including - you guessed it - Alexander! She also took in some quiet reading time with Beth and Mookie - which would be cute enough expect that we learned that night that she can also say "Beth" and today she has learned to say "Mookie!". Good thing she learned to finally say "Mommy" first!.

With quite an exciting gamem Lilah fell asleep in the last (and I am not kidding here) 45 seconds of the game making her mom miss one of the greatest comebacks and then turnarounds in years.

Snow Day!

It's been a pretty mild winter here so far in D.C. , so imagine our excitement today when we woke up to snow! As soon as Lilah got up and looked at the window she wanted to check it out - who can resist her "peese Momma" even in PJs.

After a few hours with the snow getting a bit higher, Lilah got to try out another one of the joys of winter snow - snowballs! We are going to head outside for some snow angel making after he nap but for now we are trying to make sure she knows to not eat the yellow snow.

For another first today Lilah got to try out her first box of crayons! It took her a bit of time to realizing they were for drawing and not eating, but once she did fun ensued.

And an update from the last post...on Friday Lilah had her 15 month Dr's appointment where we learned she is doing wonderfully. She is 22lbs (35th percentile), 31.5" (75th percentile - she is tall!), and 49cm head (97th percentile of course). She is speaking more words than even I realized and she did fantastic with all of her shots. Go Lilah!

As for the chickenpox - Lilah was exposed during her nanny share as the child she is with came down with them on Wed. We have learned so much since then but the basics are: we will know within 10-25 days if she was infected, if so no biggie we just have to keep her isolated from younger children until all her pox have gone away and keep her from itching herself all over. So keep your fingers crossed an find humor in the irony that she was suppose to get her chicken pox vaccine on Friday and she was exposed on Monday (she did actually get the vaccine on Wed - but it is only 70% effective anyway so who knows if it would have made a difference).

And for even some end of the blog fun, some lunch time eating.

For Lilah's first birthday she got a lot of wonderful presents and at different times she claims different ones as her "favorite" of the moment.

Currently the one she spends the most time with (and by "time" I mean EVERY night) is a pull around kitty named KoKo (named for Erika and David's cat since they are the ones who got the kitty for Lilah).

Now this would be a very cute story of Lilah and her cute kitty (and video below), and you would think that a toy that makes no sound wouldn't give us much trouble...however...Lilah especially loves when mommy walks the kitty around the house singing "We're walking the Kitty, we're walking the kitty, here we go, we're walking the kitty." - you'll have to make up your own tune. So you can imagine our nights the last few weeks :) that I hope gives you a smile today!

Tonight (yes two in one day!) her 15th month appointment...and "chicken pox - yea or nea?", so tune in again soon.

So we all know that the camera loves Lilah, but now Lilah loves the camera. On Christmas Eve, Lilah learned how to take self portraits of herself with our camera - even smiling right after she presses the button and before the flash goes off. So for your viewing pleasure...Lilah taking photos of Lilah....

Lilah has also learned how to play tug of war with Hunter (or as she called him "Unter") and he has learned how to play back!

Happy Holidays to all! We in the Boig household have been traveling, holiday fools with the pictures to show for it. I'll let the pictures do the talking on this blog entry, but two quick notes ... that since the last time I wrote Lilah came down with and thankfully got over her first stomach virus (after eating pea soup no less!) and the wrapped with care present to the left was Lilah's first X-mas gift from Alexander - a life size Gund duck that she loves!
We started off our holiday season a little over a week ago (a week and a day ago to be exact) when we dragged Lilah and Hunter out of bed to head to my mom's house in NJ. You can see how well the two of them have taken to sharing the back of the car together.

After good food and good presents, Lilah decided to rearrange her Grandmother's spice cabinet over and over and well over again.

We had a very nice and relaxing two days, and a great dinner with my Aunt Karen and Uncle Fred, who got to see Lilah running all around.

While Hunter did his own form of relaxing on her couch.

Lilah also enjoyed playing with my mom's singing frog.

A few days later we said goodbye to one part of Jersey and hello to another as we all headed off to Lilah's Bubbe's house, where Lilah LOVED to play with her Hanukkah tree and point out all the "balls" (ornaments). She now has four words in her repertoire - ball, baby, Hunter and of course Daddy.

We all enjoyed a good game of "Lilah in the Basket".

Lilah very much enjoyed her first Latke and after a week of her barely eating due to the virus it was a good meal to have.

She also amazed us all with her "peekaboo" napkin game.

As well as her "Let me sleep in Hunter's new bed" game.

Sunday night we made our way back to MD to check out our NEW patio! Garden planting has already started and spring fever is coming soon.

We got back just in time for the first night of Hanukkah at home and the second night at Beth and Darryl's where Lilah received her first CD of Rocknoceros, a local kids band with some great music. I think Lilah enjoyed Darryl dancing more than the CD.

The third night also spent quietly at home, before the 4th night where breaking with the tradition of Christmas Eve Chinese dinner Lilah was a fantastic dinner guest at Growlers, a local area brew pub.

And then Christmas itself (wow was that only yesterday!). As with traditions past we attending the annual Christmas Enchilada celebration at the Reich's, where Lilah and Alexander exchanged lovely gifts and the rest of us brought totally inappropriate White Elephant gifts to exchange with each other.

After a full meal and tons of yummy desserts we got to unwrap one last gift of "Lilah in a sac".

We also pondered "Could Alexander really be Santa Clause?".

And just because it's cute, a picture of all the girls at the party (not even taken this way on purpose!).

So with some partying behind us and some still ahead (more night of Hanukkah and New Years still to come. Lilah kicked back with a book.

And well Hunter ... you can interpret that your own way.

The cold and a cold

With the weather outside doing all kinds of wacky things, it was inevitable for sickness to overtake the house. I was ill a few weeks ago, and this week Lilah and Jason followed. On top of it, Lilah is starting to cut her seventh (can you believe it!) tooth so she was a bit out of sorts.
Apparently not too out of sorts to not find trouble for herself though! This week she learned that there are all kinds of fun things to be had in Daddy's end table, including the yarmulke you see her wearing above.

She is also carrying on my family tradition of a love for socks - mismatched ones that is.

Today we had the special treat of being able to "Alexandersit" when Santiago had to do a quick call for work. As always the two of them got along splendidly, with Lilah showing Alexander how to dance to her drum. That was until Lilah decided she was ready for a nap and everyone had to know that!

This weekend we will be working to get the house ready for the holidays (cleaning, etc) and then leaving Thursday for NJ to see Grandma (my mom) and Bubbe (Jason's mom) for some Hanukkah fun.

Hockey, Cameras, Speaking and a Patio!

So first, for those I have been spamming with photos for the last two days, I don't think it is going to stop anytime soon! The Boigs (yes that's us, and me speaking in third person) have gotten a new camera and it's fast as anything shutter speed has caused us to take tons of photos each night....

...if you want to be spammed with photos just let me know, but know what you are in for.

As many of you know last Thursday we took Lilah to the Washington Capitals hockey game at the Verizon Center. With third row seats we were able to take in all the action including watching a stuffed hot dog dance across the ice. (dollar hot dog day!).

Lilah had a wonderful time and even watched some of the game. She held out the entire game (which ended just before her normal bedtime) and crashed on the metro on the way home. We will be going once more on Feb 1st!

As promised in the title of this entry, a quick note about our new patio. Well, the note is that we are getting one! And some work done on the garden as well. here is a photo of what it looks like today and Saturday we will have a whole new photos. Except many outdoor BBQs once the weather gets better.

A wonderful Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving weekend was had in the Boig household the last few days. Seeing friends and family was fantastic times, and seeing Lilah turning into a "real toddler" was even more fantastic.

So sharing through photos....

On Saturday after swim class, Jason, Lilah and I headed up to my Aunt Missy's in Harrisburg, PA for Saturday Thanksgiving feast. Lilah had a wonderful time running around (really!) with her cousins and everyone was amazed at how she had grown since her birthday.

We had a great time ending with this turkey cake brought by my Aunt Seri. It even has a pop up timer.

After dinner I got to relax with Lilah and her cousin Reese. These pictures of me with two babies has got to stop :)!

Yesterday was a shopping fiesta as we headed out in search of great bargains. And we found one! A new dining room table with a bench and chairs. Click on this link to check it out.

As you can see Lilah is already very handy and has been doing a great job at being "Mommy's helper.". She is a super helper around the kitchen too.

Speaking of helping in the kitchen. Here is a video of Lilah's Thanksgiving morning help.

So somehow no one took a single photo of the Thanksgiving table, dinner or basically anything till after dessert.

So..dinner was good...dessert was great...Lilah ate LOTS of turkey.

After dessert we settled in for the "activities" of the evening. Which as you can see consisted of Elizabeth very patiently trying to get Lilah to make a hand turkey. What do don't see in this photo is that while we were all helping Alexander make his turkey, Lilah had taken that Scrapbooking Ink off the table (see if in the right corner of the photo) and had proceeded to cover herself, the floor and then very quickly a part of mommy's shirt leading to some quick clean up and PJ changing.

We also had brought out an old chair of Lilah for Alexander to hang out in for the evening. Well Lilah quickly remembered how much SHE loved that chair and the second Alexander gave it up for some grub she started to hold court in it!

Heading into this week, Lilah attends her first hockey game! Bubbe comes to visit and more music and swim classes.

The good news is we have been having lots of fun, seeing lots of family and enjoying some good times with Lilah the past two weeks. The bad news is each time I sit down to post I forget the photos!

So another catching up post is in order, knowing that I will miss something since it's been 15 days!

Heading backwards, this past weekend my Aunt Karen and Uncle Fred (and their dog Zoey) were in town visiting and Lilah took the opportunity to show off her running (yes running!) skills. She is all over the place these days and doesn't ever like to sit down, which makes it a bit hard to give her a bath!

As you can see from this video (if you turn your head sideways), she is starting to be able to think through her actions and is really learning to follow along.

The weekend before this past one, my mom was in town and we did the music class, swim class, routine as usual. I am proud to announce that Lilah will be moving up to a "big girl" music class next session as she is currently the oldest in her class and the instructors gave the OK for her to be in with the older kids. For swim class we are hoping to find something closer to home in the Winter, as driving 40 minutes both Friday and Saturday is starting to grate on Lilah's mommy and daddy!

And before that was Veterans' day. We spent the evening at Elizabeth and Santiago's house where Lilah showed off her flirting skills by playing "peekaboo" with Alexander. She seems very comfortable around him and it is really fun to watch them start to interact as he grows older.

With Thanksgiving approaching the house is in full "cooking" mode and should soon be full of holiday smells. Lilah has become huge "helper" in the kitchen already, where she is learning to put things in a bowl as I cut them. We just have to teach her not to squish tomatoes as she places them together!

Then after Thanksgiving we will be doing a post holiday dinner in PA (at Aunt Missy's), where Lilah will get to see all of her cousins again. Won't they be surprised that she can now chase them around.

I am sure I have missed about 100 amazing milestones that have happened in the past 15 days, but at least you all have some cute videos and photos to tide you over till the post-Thanksgiving photos!

Time for a change (and lots more adventure).

Welcome back everyone! Since the rest of America is changing, I decided it was time for a blog color change as well. Testing the one out to see if I like it...

Since my last blog post skipped right over Halloween, I wanted to backtrack just to share a few photos with everyone. As you can see Lilah had a great time trying to figure out how to wear tights for the first time and then showing off her costume in music class. I also brought her into the office for (to be honest) the selfish reason of everyone telling me how cute she was!

After quite a crazy birthday (mine not hers!) we headed off to Deep Creek Maryland with Elizabeth and Santiago (famed parents of Lilah's man Alexander) for some rest and relaxation.

As you can see Hunter started the "rest" part of this as soon as we left the house.

Lilah was a wonderful traveler sleeping most of the way to Deep Creek, just waking up long enough to play in the grass at a rest stop!

Our house in Deep Creek was amazing and in case you were wondering this was the view from the living room. What a fantastic place to wake up each day...we all contemplated staying forever.

Lilah and Alexander got along wonderfully as usual and here is a quick photo of what I would look like if we ever had two kids (scary stuff!).

After a totally relaxing weekend we headed home for the election which you have all already seen and heard about (both our adventures as well as the country's). That you everyone who email or comments with awesome stories - you all rock! (Especially Maria whose vote in Florida made a huge difference after standing in line for hours with her son!).

Sometime during the week we shot this incredibly embarrassing video - but hey if you can't be embarrassed through a public blog when can you be! (and Lilah looks cute).

Then this past weekend us Boigs all piled in the car again to head up to NJ to visit Lilah's Bubbe (Jason's mom) where Lilah wowed all of us by her ability to knock down not just wooden blocks -- but towers and towers of Tupperware!

After a yummy dinner at Big Fish we headed out for a little stroll around the mall to work off those calories. (OK we really just walked to the car but it made for this cute photo anyway!).

On Sunday we took Lilah to a local farm where she got to visit with ducks and goats - I wish I knew what she was thinking! Then back in the car to our place which brings us to today.

Jason and I have off tomorrow, so I am sure many adventures will abound. So till the next post...keep warm!

Today's regularly schedule blog updated of last weekend's birthday fun has been interrupted....

Do you know what Lilah was doing?? She was voting!

Woken up two hours before her normal time, she happily got in line outside smiling and amusing all of the tired but energetic folks in our little section of Montgomery County.

Waiting in line for only one hour (thankfully!) she Voted for Change using her patented "one finger" method.

And now she can go get free stuff! (Thanks Darryl)

So what's your excuse? Why haven't you voted? What are you doing that is more important? Do you see the smiling face above - don't you want some of that?!!

So get out and VOTE so that tomorrow you can hear all about Lilah's Halloween and her fun weekend with her husband-to-be at Deep Creek Lake.

Lilah's first hair cut (and other stuff)

Wow two postings in one week! It must be the cold weather keeping me more tied to my computer.

Well what the cold weather is NOT doing is keep Lilah and the rest of us inside! As you can see she enjoys being all bundled up and out and about on the town. And tonight "on the town" was over to Lakeforest Mall to get Lilah's first hair cut at Cartoon Cuts, a salon especially for kids.

The event started as well as Lilah sat in her chair and watched Elmo on the TV in front of her. Unfortunately that peace only lasted until the nice hairdresser spritz her hair water and got out her scissors.

It was at that point that Lilah showed her true feelings and had one of the few breakdowns that we have seen. (Although if a stranger started coming at my head with a sharp pointy object you can bet I would have a breakdown as well!). Thankfully the hairdresser had seen it all and was skilled enough to still cut her bangs in a straight line!

Also thankfully, she always recovers fast, especially when given some new toys to play with.

As you can see her curls are still intact and we were very pleased with the results.

Lilah is becoming more playful day by day. Two quick snapshots of her "hiding and seeking" and her "bear hugs".

Lilah and Jenna's Excellent Adventures

This weekend saw lots of wild and crazy adventures for Lilah and her mom (that's me!). As we have the last few weekends, Jason has spent some concentrated time working on completing the installation for our bedroom floors and Lilah and I have worked to get out of his way and out of the house!

On Saturday afternoon Lilah and I ventured to her last swim class of the session where she received her - "Your doing great!" certificate from our instructor Mary. We will miss the next two weeks as we head out of town, but will be back swimming mid-November till the end of the year. After that, and in anticipation of Mom's wild night out, Lilah, Tara and I headed out for an impromptu shopping spree at Kohl's where Lilah surprised us all by learning to fall asleep in her new stroller! Then back to the house where Dad took over for nighttime fun and games and mom headed out pretending to be 21 (well 19 acting like 21) for a night on the town with friends.

Sunday morning brought new adventures as Lilah and Mom (and Beth!) ventured out to Darryl's 15th (yes you read correctly 15th) marathon. Coming in at his 3rd best time ever Lilah cheered and cheered for Darryl and all the rest of the runners.

She also really enjoyed watching the planes go by from National Airport!

After the marathon and a quick stop to eat, the ladies headed out to the pumpkin festival at Butlers Orchard. Some pumpkin picking, apple eating and animal petting later we all headed back to crash at our respective houses.

An adventurous weekend but a wonderful time! Next up this weekend - relaxation in Deep Creek MD for Bday fun with the Reiches!

What IS she eating!

Over the past week, I have been amazed by the shear sneakiness (some call it "personality") that Lilah has developed and I have shared the following tale with several of you:

As you can see from the photo on the left, Lilah has started eating with us at the dinner table. She eats a range of things from fish to spinach and still on occasion jar food -- although she likes to feed it to herself as I am sure you can tell from this photo. In addition, she REALLY likes to feed Hunter from the table. Although Jason and I have been working to deter this behavior, she is pretty committed to making sure Hunter is not left out of the dinner process. So, what she has done is to put food in her mouth and then when Jason and I look away - taking it out of her mouth and SNEAKING IT TO HUNTER! Now granted she is only one and not all that sneaky, but still, I am not sure if I should be annoyed that she is trying to put one over on us, or damn proud (I think I am going with damn proud).

The other food item that bring me much humor is apples. Anytime we go to the grocery story, Lilah MUST have an apple to gnaw on as we travel up and down the aisles. At first she only made little dents in it, but as she is getting more and more teeth. she had been able to finish quite a bit of it so that when I give it to the cashier to way and pay, I almost feel like they should weigh Lilah as well. And since a video is worth tons of words check this out from about a hour ago (getting home from tonight grocery shopping.)

That poor apple - it didn't know what hit it!

Thankfully as she gets older Lilah is still on her best behavior in restaurants as long as we keep her entertained. What counts as entertaining you may ask....well this video says it all!

Lilah is walking! (well she is "stepping")

Yes. the rumor is true! Lilah has taken her first steps and she has taken them several times. This past Thursday Lilah walked from Jason to me, and back again several times taking as many as four steps without falling!

Why did it take so long for blog post you may ask? Well, it took that many days for us to be able to capture it with a video, and not even a good video at that. But below are the two best attempts we have been able to make to show off one of Lilah's biggest growth steps (ha ha get it "steps") ever!

Along with her first steps, Lilah has also become a full fledged toddler - attitude and all. The photo above shows Jason feeding her broccoli and turkey meatballs with chopsticks. We were having sushi with Darryl and Beth last night and Lilah refused to eat unless she was eating the same way the rest of us were. So chopsticks it was! Tonight she had the same fish (snapper) and spinach that Jason and I were having. Fun stuff having a real "little person" around.

The parties are over, but not the fun!

As you might be able to tell, since I have not updated my Facebook status since last Wednesday, it has been a crazy fun week around the Boig household. And as you know, this past weekend was Lilah's third and last bday party!

This party was at our place and with about 30 friends, family and many children was quite a crazy time (although now that I think about it I think we had that many folks at my Aunt Missy's just more kids and less adults!).

True to form, Lilah did a very good job of not smashing her cake, but doing her well known "one finger" trick of touching it and then licking icing off of her finger.

A few folks commented to me how wonderful it was to have Lilah surrounded by so many folks who clearly loved and cared about her. What a wonderful thing to hear!

We also had a great time after the party opening the fantastic and generous gifts from everyone - thank you! You can see Lilah modeling one of her new outfits here.

Before all of the fun festivities Lilah had her one year pediatrician appointment on Friday. And...drum roll...out of the Dr's mouth she is "perfect". She is 19lbs and 11oz and 50% in both height and weight. Of course she still sports the 95% head thanks to her dad. :)

Thankfully we have very little planned the next few weeks and plan to relax and finish our bedroom flooring so that Lilah and Hunter can have even more fun sliding around in their socks (and paws).

Lilah Eats Her First Corn on the Cob

Last night, Lilah & Jenna came over to cook dinner for David & me (this is Erika guest blogging in order to get the rather long video uploaded). After playing with Koko and crawling around for awhile, Lilah attacked her first piece of corn on the cob and David was there to catch our amused & somewhat inappropriate reactions. Mmmmm...tasty!

Lilah's "Second" Everything

As Jason and I were perusing the holiday outfits around Buy Buy Baby today, it occurred to me that Lilah is officially past all of the "Baby's 1st...." outfits since she has already experienced everything the first time around. What a realization that was! (It also made me realize I had to change the timeline on the top of this blog, which you will see now points towards her 2nd bday.)

Lilah birthday celebrations are continuing and this week we celebrated her actual birthday this past Tuesday with my dad and his wife Val.

Lilah is having a wonderful time opening all of her new toys and clothes and is quickly picking up on new things she can learn - such is copying mom and dad talking on the phone.

Lilah had a lot of fun trying to blow out her "birthday muffin" which she then realized she wasn't even allowed to eat :)

Lilah got to spend most of her bday week with her daddy as I was out in the woods for a work retreat. Lilah and daddy had a fantastic time playing and even singing and dancing in Friday's weekly music class (I wish I had a picture!).

And with a birthday comes the 12th bear photo. It is amazing to us she used to fit in the tiny armpit of the bear!

We call these her devil and angel photos.

Looking ahead to year #2 we already have some fantastic adventures planned - another party on the 11th for more friends and family, a trip to Deep Creek MD with the Reiches, and lots of swim and music classes ahead.

So rest up everyone, Lilah's "Second" will be a first for all of us!

Lilah Turns ONE!!!

Happy Birthday Lilah! (insert song here)

At this moment sleep right next to me on our bed is a super cute and much LARGER and more active baby than one year ago today.

For the first time in writing this blog I had to sit back this morning and think a bit before I could figure out what to say.

It has been an amazing year. In just one year Lilah has gone from 7lbs to 19lbs (aprox) and from a blobby baby to a cruising toddler. She is babbling away each day just busting to tell us what she is thinking of the world. And I am pretty sure Jason and I have learned more from her than she has from us.

It has been a year of sadness as well as celebrations, but at the end of each day watching her curl up on one of our laps for bed, we know that all can be right and good with the world another day.

On the celebration end, this weekend we had one of two and a half parties for Lilah's birthday at my Aunt Missy's house in PA. Lilah got to meet seven of her cousins and we got to kick off the birthday fun a little early.

We had a fantastic time and as you can see Lilah was more interested in feeding her Daddy the cake I made her to smash than actually smashing it herself. (Maybe we will have more luck tonight!).

However she did know that the party was about her first birthday as you can see her sporting her I'm "one years old" finger in this photo while being held by my cousin Holli. (Hopefully next year she won't look like Nixon).

It was also an opportunity for family pictures and amazingly enough seven of the cousins sat on the stairs for JUST long enough for me to get this photo :)

You have to admit we have a pretty cute family!

So, a very very happy birthday to (as we call her) Miss Lilah Bean!
We can not wait to see was this year brings!

Lilah's Wild Adventures

With just a little over one week till Lilah's first b-day (one week and four hours to be exact), she is growing by leaps and bounds each day. From standing a few seconds on her own, to FINALLY holding her own bottle, to being able to point at what she wants us to get her. The last week has been full of milestones. Milestones and adventures!

With eating always the great adventure, I has to share this photo of Lilah enjoying her new favorite food - yogurt! She loves it and has some each day. I discovered her love for it when I was having some of my own yogurt one day and she practically ripped the spoon out of my hand.

In the "thing we do as grownups she like to imitate" area, Lilah has also been stealing toothbrushes from out of my mouth. This is her with my second replacement after the first one seems to have gotten "lost" among her toys. Well at least I know she already has good hygiene!

I forgot to mention in my last blog post that we had gone out for Tara's bday with family and friends. Normally, I let posts be posts and don't revisit them, but I mention it here only to be able to share this photo of Alexander after his first "boys" trip to Krispy Kreme. I think he could fit his whole body in that hat!

I have mentioned the wonderful nanny and nanny share that we do a few times on the blog, but I wanted to share the photo of Lilah and Kiran after a long walk to the park last week. (ooooahhh aren't they cute....)

Lastly, yesterday Lilah and I had an impromptu adventure to the Wheaton Regional Park with Erik, Gayle and Jordan. As Jason was working on our floors all day, I had gone to lunch and then tagged along on their daily adventures. As you can see from this photo Lilah had a wonderful time on the carousal and after some walking and more walking she got to admire lots of butterflies in an exhibit that closed yesterday.

And because it is fun, Lilah when she first sees her evening "dessert" of Organic O's (or just O's as we call them around here.

Weekend Updates....and two weeks left till ONE YEAR

OK readers of the MMB blog, I have a small bone to pick with you all ... how is it that I post cute photos, funny stories and updates for over a year with one small comment here and there and Jason posts TWO updates in one year and gets FIVE comments. I see I am just not cute enough for you all! ;) (note winking eye means this is just a joke and I am not really mad so please keep coming back to read!)

So that said on to the updating. This past weekend my mom came to town to visit. We realized it was the first time someone has been here on a weekend in quite a while, so we took advantage of her to be our personal photographer for swim class (we tried music class too but that picture did not come out so well)! As you can see we all do really get into the pool with her and she is getting really good and splashing around and her favorite game - let's climb out of the pool and crawl away. I especially like the song where at the end we all go shhhhhh as this is suppose to teach them when to be loud and when to be quiet. Silly instructor silly silly silly.

We ran lots and lots of errands and tried our best to tire Lilah out all weekend but as you can see from the first photo above that only seemed to work when she was reading. Now that Lilah has learned to crawl and stand up and walk with our assistance she has been pretty unstoppable.

She is also learning to feed herself - which is great! and messy. We have been allowing her to go for it and the calamity that has ensured has been quite funny. I also learned last night that if I substitute broccoli for organic O's as a finger food she doesn't seem to care. Yea! Although she did spend quite a bit of time trying to feed the broccoli to me while keeping the O's for herself - hmmm.

She has also gotten even more expressive than ever as you can see from this photo. Right now sticking her tongue out is her favorite thing to do in the car, in the house, on the street - you get the picture.

Brown Bear and Cheerios

So, I was putting Lilah to bed last night and, as per the normal process, we read a book. The book of the evening was "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?". It is a good book about animals and colors. Maybe a little old for her, but I feel that she's a quick learner. Anyway, we were then talking about the colors and it got me thinking, and sharing with Lilah, that when she is older she can move up from her plain Cheerios (actually Organic O's) to ones that have lots of colors like the book - Froot Loops. They are both round but now bigger, flavored, and with colors!!! The other option that we, Lilah and I, agreed upon were Lucky Charms (a daddy fav) since, while still plain, they are now different shapes and have colorful marshmallows.

Lilah's First Trip to the Park and FOUR videos! (longest post ever)

WARNING TO READERS: This is going to be the longest post this site has ever had as I have four videos and a ton of photos to share from our trip to the park today. So be forewarned you might want to have a cup of coffee handy!

After our most recent tropical storm blew threw, it left us with what might be the last nice day our area will see till next May. So Jason and I decided to take advantage of it taking the whole family (Jason, Lilah, Hunter and myself) out to the local park that we walk Hunter around every day. We did the picnic thing packing sandwiches (and sweet potatoes for Lilah), chips, drinks and walked the four blocks over to the park to sit on a large blanket under a tree.

If we haven't talked to you, this family outing was much needed as Lilah has spent the last few days cutting her two top teeth, causing fever, pain and general crankiness to ... well everyone! She has been getting better and better, but today turned a corner and could not wait to get outside and play.

The first video you are seeing was actually at the end of our picnic when we hit the slides and Jason and Lilah had fun seeing which of the three available she liked best. The next video was Lilah watching other dogs play at the park.

Hunter, of course, as you can see in this video, had much more interesting things to check out than other dogs in the park. We are continuously amazed with the different things that Lilah can do, increasing on a daily basis. We are also surprised with all of the odd things (well odd to us!) that she does. Today's realization was that when she is napping and we go in to check on her, she is always sleeping with her head shoved in one of the four corners of her crib. Jason wants me to take a photo, but I am always so afraid of waking her.

This video was the first one that we shot at the park, after Lilah decided she wanted to feed herself sweet potatoes and then give mommy a BIG KISS on the stomach. (picture a child, face full of sweet potatoes crawling as fast as light right into you so hard it almost knocks you over -- what's not to love about that). As you can see (and I say in the video) she is hamming it up for the camera. She now understands that the "click" of the camera means turn around and smile or make a funny face.

We also took TONS of photos today and I was going to post about six of them, but am now realizing folks coffee might be running out. So stay tuned for tomorrow when I will post all the photos from today's adventure, plus a few I have been holding out for just the right blog post.

And remember....she turns ONE in three and a half week AKAK!!

A look back at Lilah throughout the months - Through Photos!

As we move closer and closer to Lilah's first birthday, I have been going through all of our old photos of her to get some framed for our house. So...a look back....

This is a photo that Jason took my first day back at work after maternity leave. Outfit provided by Lilah's Aunt Sarah she had the best smile already and it made my day to get this over e-mail just as I was starting to get lonely.

Lilah's first fancy schmancy party - Enchilada X-mas at the Reich's (also known as Alexanders parents). This is her first fancy party dress a hand-me-down from Sydney.

At her first formal photo shoot. This picture was taken when my friend Erika (also a professional photographer) spent the day with us shooting Lilah, Lilah and well more Lilah.

The first time she sat up on her own. We were at Darryl and Beth's house and she could not wait to play her piano all by herself. (now she uses it to stand up).

And last, but NEVER least - Lilah's amazing ability to make the international sign for Cockerspaniel (see previous posts on this if you are confused).

A bit too tired for much commentary, I wanted to get up Lilah's 11 month bear photos that we took tonight. As you can see she not only sits on the bear, but likes to stand beside it now a well.

The comparison photos are from when she was five months old (can you say "lots more hair!". WOW time has flown by. With less than a month to her 1st birthday we are getting prepared for some fun!

Well first it meant we had a fantastic Labor Day weekend with friends. Saturday we worked around the house and made lots of tasty goodies for the weekend parties. Lilah helped by making sure we bought the right groceries at the store - trying to touch everything as we walked by.

Sunday we had a wonderful lunch with Gayle, Erik and Jordan eating tasty food and watching the kids play in the baby pool. It has been amazing to watch the two of them grow together developing new skills and interests.

We also went to a Labor Day party at Beth and Darryl's on Sunday night, where we got to hang out and relax with a bunch of our friends, many of which we had not seen in quite a while. Lilah got to be the "middle child" having a great time with Sydney and Meredith as well as giving air kisses to Alexander.

Then today we caught up around the house, getting a new printer (our old one died) that also allows us to print photos - whoohoo!! Lilah also decided it was time to learn how to feed herself. So a messy video showing her first, pretty darn successful, attempt.

Also for fun, and to probably amuse only me, a photo of her finally getting Cheerios (well actually Organic O's, but whose being specific) in her mouth.

Lastly, in case you didn't realize it - LILAH TURNS ONE this month. Wow and wow for us here in the Boig household. More to come on that in future posts where I also need to discuss Lilah trying to walk, her upper teeth that have come in, and many more fun subjects.

Note on this video: Lilah's mommy (that's me) tried for a very long time to turn this video the correct way but is now tired and a wee but cranky so if you want to check it out - sorry you will have to turn your head.

As Lilah gets older I have found different uses for toys that we played with six months ago (which seems like forever!). This was was giving to Lilah by my oldest (as in years we known each other, not her age) Maria when she was born. When Lilah was a few months old I was able to keep her from crying by playing it over and over and yes over again. Now, she loves to chase it down the hall and smash it into walls to watch me yell BOOM really loud over and over and yes over again.

If you watch very closely you can see a cameo appearance by Hunter!

As an addendum to tonight's post, Lilah requested a shout out (OK if she could talk, and read she would have - just take my word for it) to my good friend, and one of Lilah's babysitters!, Anne who is training for a half marathon in Arizona on January 18, 2009. Anne is training with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to raise money for the funding of blood cancer research, education and patient services. A topic incredibly near and dear to my heart. This weekend, Lilah (and her parents - that's us!) went to visit Alexander Reich (previously mentioned a few blogs ago) now that he is home from the hospital. This was Lilah and Alexander's first meeting and Lilah's first meeting of any baby much smaller than herself.

As you can see the introduction of the two went well. Well....it went well until I tried to hold Alexander and learned that our sweet, smiling Lilah has a bit of a jealous streak as she started yelling and grabbing for me - who knew!

This coming weekend we have two playdates (or "parentdates") with my friend Katie from work and her girls Harper and Alessi on Friday and Gayle, Erik and Jordan on Saturday.

Lilah also recieved a long distance "Hello" from her friend Delaney Garay currently residing in Germany. This photo shows her looking at a painting Delaney sent her of her little sister Claudia and a sunflower.

With the recent birth of Julianne Marie Frahm, 7 lbs. 8 oz, born July 30th, Lilah's group of friends continues to grow and spread.

Good thing she is getting good at napping - as she will need all that energy for playing!

The Zoo!

On one of the most beautiful days DC has seen this summer (at least according to the weatherfolk), Lilah got to go to the zoo. This past Wednesday Lilah's Bubbe, Uncle Steven and Aunt Sarah were in town and we all spent the day trying to hunt down some wild animals and take in the sun.

Starting out our visit around lunchtime, the pandas didn't want to come out to play, but luckily we were able to find this one (behind the frosted glass under where Lilah is standing) was taking a nap on its back just as cute as could be.

We also saw some elephants and gorillas, and Lilah checked out the kids area where the goats were very friendly and came right up to the side to visit. Lilah doesn't seem to be afraid of anything no matter how tall!

Lilah was fantastic, of course, even taking a nap while we munched on lunch and relaxed in the shade. After quite a hike through the zoo and back, we stopped to see one last turtle who was moving even slower than we were!

But eventually we had to come in out of the sun to visit our wild animal at home!

Although a fun day was had by all, we decided that next year maybe an April trip will be in order since the cooler weather may allow for more animal viewings.

In addition to getting out on the town, Lilah has also been learning new skills at home, including rocking in her new rocking chair from Bubbe. Go Lilah go!

10 months! (and a bit) and more video fun

Although we are closer to Lilah's 11th month B-day than her 10 month, I still wanted to make sure to post up these photos to share her growth this month. As you can see from the comparison to her three month photos she has grown quite a bit in size, but more amazingly she really is starting to look more"toddler-like" and a lot less "infant-like".

As Lilah get's older we get to try new things - like Cheerios! I guess no one told her the idea was to eat them :)

Tomorrow we head off for a day with Bubbe, Aunt Sarah and Uncle Steven. As it looks like the best weather day we have had all summer, we plan to be outdoors where who knows what trouble Lilah will get into!

The Fair!

You know summer is here when the Fair comes to town! (well and in DC when it is so unbearably hot and muggy you want to dive into the nearest pool).

This week Lilah got to experience the Montgomery County Fair which luckily is just five minutes from our house. The adventure was full of lots of new experiences from riding in a school bus to petting a goat to checking out the local historic fire trucks.

You can see from this video she is loving dancing to the music and waving around.

Music seems to be her passion right now. We are going to music class on Fridays (and swim class on Saturdays) and she loves to dance around, clap and sing out loud (well babble with a beat!). Any time there are one or two notes of music she tries to dance with her hands waving in the air. It amuses Jason and I to no end.

This coming weekend is set up to be a quiet, relaxing one. So off to relax! (OK well really to put in some laundry). Good weekend to all.

Where has Lilah gone...to FLA and back!

It seems like many moons ago since I have updated the blog, but really it's only been two weeks. A ton of fun things have happened, but most recently a Boig/Camhi trip to Florida (well some Boigs and some Camhis). This past Sunday my sister Ashley, Lilah and myself headed out for a girls trip to just outside Jacksonville to visit my dad and his wife Valerie and I have the photos to prove it!

As you can see Lilah did fantastic on the plane, sleeping on the way there and playing/sleeping on the way back. Luckily she inherited her father's calm for flying. We arrived around 10:30pm on Sunday and after being introduced to their cat, and house headed off to bed to get some energy for the trip.

Lilah was a pretty good sleeping taking lots of needed naps, but also staying awake to enjoy the fun when it was available. The first day we vegged out at their house, playing in their baby pool and letting Lilah test our her new bikini!

On day two (Monday) we headed off to the beach for Lilah's first experience with sand and sea. Being a "shore girl" myself, I am proud to say that my daughter is following in my footsteps and had a fantastic time. You can see in this last beach photo one of the neat tricks Lilah's Aunt Ashley taught her :).
On our third day there we went to St. Augustine (oldest city in the US). Maybe it was the heat, but for some reason not a photo was taken - so you will just have to take my word for it that it was fun and a good time (and shopping) was had by all. Lilah was also entertained that evening by the Japanese steak house we dined at - YUM.

On our last day (yesterday) we went to the pool in my Dad's complex. They had a water play area for small children and as you can see Lilah had quite a time there as well. So three different water experience, three different bathing suits and I think Lilah loves her fun in the sun!

More photos to share and stories to tell, but for now we are going to enjoy the sun a bit more north in MD!

Lilah has a new friend (and potential husband!)

Apparently not being able to wait a moment longer to meet Lilah, his potential wife-to-be, Alexander Paul Reich was born Sunday night at 7:39pm about seven weeks early.

Doing wonderfully he is already kicking away and yelling at anyone who dares to disturb his naps.

As you can see Lilah can't wait to meet him and sent a shout out through our digital camera to his hospital room.

Elizabeth is also doing well, resting up and enjoying the heat of a room with bad air conditioning in the middle of a DC summer (send ice! - just kidding).

Love and well more love to Alexander, Elizabeth and Santiago.

Lilah continue to amazes us day by day with what she is able to do. She has been learning to share with others, passing items back and forth from Jason and I as we say "Thank You" and hand them back to her. As you can see from this photo, she also has been trying her darnedest to share with Hunter (Unfortunately his lack of opposable thumbs makes it difficult).

She has also been learning to do laundry. As you can see here she is hard at work making sure that we all have clean clothes to wear.

Crawling has allowed her to do many new things and already getting into many hysterical situations.

My mom and sister were in town this past weekend and bought Lilah a baby pool allowing her to rediscover how much she loves water and providing many laughs as we watch her enjoy herself in the pool!

Lilah also went on an adventure to our favorite sushi restaurant where she got to watch all of us enjoy fantastic martinis and showed up all the other babies by being the best behaved one there (of course!). Luckily I have no photos to show of that one.

Two misc. notes....thank you to everyone who sent me a link to the new MD law requiring employers to have a contract with their nanny. Luckily since we have two lawyers and an MBA in our nanny share that was the first thing we did!

Also...we got the sound fix on the video part of our camera so more videos coming soon!

Trying to shoot Lilah's nine months with the bear was a hysterical experience. As you can see from the above photo (the left one, the right one is from when she was five month to compare) she was hard to keep still. We are starting a music class in a few weeks called "Perpetual Motion" and I really think that is the perfect way to describe her. Always moving and busy - have a fantastic time with a great smile.

The last two weeks have been amazing in terms of growth - Lilah crawled all the way across the room yesterday and today crawled all the way off our bed (no worries she is perfectly fine!). She has broken through one tooth and another is coming very soon. We will try to get a photo of them, but so far she has wanted to keep the lid (or more specifically her tongue on them.

She is also pulling up on everything around and it has been fun getting the house baby proof ready.

Off to get some sleep for whatever tomorrow's adventures with her will bring!

So to start off, there are just too many photos of the last week to share, so the nine month bear ones will just have to wait for the next post. But trust me, they are well worth the wait as getting Lilah to sit still for them was an amazing (and not really accomplished well) feat.
What we have accomplished this week, however, has been sitting around staring at the amazing growth Lilah has had in just one week. Her nine month doctor appointment went very well and she weighs in at 17lbs 8 oz, 27 inches with a 95% noggin. We got rave reviews and the best "Well we'll see you again in three months" a mom could hope for.

One of the items reported on was Lilah's ability to start to eat solid foods. Mashed, pureed and cut up - any form will do as long as it is mushy enough her not yet appearing teeth can handle them. As you can see from the photos she is handling banana and a green bean quite well. She has had about every veggie and most fruits you can imagine and is doing a good job at not being allergic to any of them so far. Go Lilah!

After a bit of a crazy week at the Boig's (that's us!) we settled into the Forth of July with a cute outfit and good friends. Elizabeth and Santiago came over for a BBQ and backyard camping (quickly turning into an indoor sleepover when we got hit with a massive rainstorm). Lilah had no lack of fun times as we also had the pleasure of hosting our step-dog Mookie who allowed Lilah complete latitude of climbing and food stealing.
Rounding out the weekend was a defunct trip to a closed water park and a visit by Uncle Steven who got to watch Lilah toss around all her toys (but thankfully not her squash!).

As we were getting ready to wrap up the long weekend, we heading over to Beth and Darryl's for what we thought would be an uneventful Sunday night cookout. However, never uneventful when the Boig/Eagle/Diamonds get together, Lilah amazed us all by finally getting her crawling going by chasing Beth's flip flop across part of the room. Who knew? I guess it's time to get some new shoes!

OK off to get some shut eye. Stay tuned for nine month bear photos as well as a recap of Jason and my six year anniversary dinner tomorrow night.

A few postings ago, I put up the photo on the left of Lilah smiling and being the cute kid that she is. Jason's mom immediately recognized the face as one that she has seen before -- on Jason! So along with her calm temperament she also got her fathers looks - lucky kid!

On a proud momma note, when I got home last night after being in the car literally all day, Lilah greeted me by showing me she can now go from a stomach to sitting position. Woohoo.

Lilah Goes Camping!

This weekend was Lilah's first camping trip to Bull Run Regional Park. We left Saturday early afternoon to spend about 24 hours in amazingly quiet wilderness right outside of Manassas, Virginia.

After setting up our tents and some snacking, Lilah, Hunter, Jason and quite a few friends headed out for a mile or so hike through beautiful woods next to a flowing steam. Lilah fell asleep about 15 minutes into the hike, missing Hunter's first foray into water ever, but hopefully not his last. She slept for most of the hike out, waking up to enjoy the last bit of it where she admired the green and listened to the sweet song of the local birds.

Jason and I were a bit worried about how she would do as dusk set, but always a trooper, she did amazing and smiled and giggled into the dark as we made smores and climbed into our tents (with Beth and Darryl's "E" close by in case of emergency sleeping needs).

Sleeping well into the night, Lilah awoke at dawn to a cool morning breeze happy as could be and played in our tent for a while until the rest of our traveling group woke up.

After quite a bit of coffee (for me, not for her!) we headed off to the playground at he campsite, where after realizing it was for children 5-8 we proceeded to spend time playing like big kids and showing Lilah the ropes.

She passed out in the car on the way back and then took a three hour nap after getting all cleaned up in a bath after we arrived home.

Jason and I agreed that we could not have asked for a better first camping experience for Lilah and we look forward to many more in years to come!

Sitting, crawling and other fun things...

As you know Lilah has been sitting on her own for some time now, but lately she has gotten even more handy. She can now move from sitting to crawling position, to getting herself all way across the floor crawling (OK well backwards but it's still movement). She is pulling herself up to a standing position and can walk if we hold onto her hands.

All this to explain how very very soon our lives are going to change when she can start to get around on her own. She is going to be gone! (well at least running around and around the house) and I am going to have to find some other way to keep the amazing arms I have developed as a result of carrying her around.

As a quick update, last weekend Lilah has her first non family or friend babysitter - for seven hours no less. She did great and was asleep, although only for a brief time, when I got home. She seems to have no ill effects and Jason and I will have to try a babysitter again this time maybe actually going out together (last time was two different parties).

Tomorrow is her nine month pediatrician appointment where she gets poked, weighed, measured, etc. I can't wait to see what they say about her teeth that are soooooo close to coming out. I will make sure to report back fully.

Lastly, a shout out to a new baby on the block - Jacob Inerfeld Zedeck, born June 25 12:12am and weighing in at 6lbs 2oz. Congrats to parents Dana and Paul! As I always say to folks "Babies are the best, I highly recommend getting yourself one."
