MBB is tasty!

Yes there are lots of things wrong with the title of this blog entry - but hey a pregnant lady has to have some fun!

So this week MBB is a slice of pizza. I am going for veggie pizza, but I have a feeling Jason would prefer Hawaiian. We will be going on June 6th for our next weigh in (both MBB and myself get weighed) and to hear the heartbeat again. But as far as today's stats:

  • MBB is between 12 and 8inches and 12.5 oz
  • The baby can turn, spin, somersault, and jackknife this week - and trust me MBB does
  • MBBs motions are becoming more forceful and coordinated and the connection between the brain and limbs is growing stronger every day. Hopefully soon strong enough Jason can feel the baby move around.

In case you were wondering about my butt getting bigger (I was!) this week the email told me that "Two hormones, progesterone and relaxing, are responsible for making your pelvic bones separate more easily during labor. As the joints in your pelvis soften and loosen, your hips widen. " Lucky me.

Friday sign along

"I'm Chiquita banana and I've come to say,
Bananas have to ripen in a certain way
When they are fleck'd with brown and have a golden hue
Bananas taste the best and are best for you
You can put them in a salad
You can put them in a pie-aye
Any way you want to eat them It's impossible to beat them
But, bananas like the climate of the very, very tropical equator
So you should never put bananas in the refrigerator."

As you can probably tell this week MBB is the size of a "big banana". The stats of the week are:
  • 7.5-10.5 inches (depending on which email you read)
  • 12 oz
  • Lots of kicking but still not strong enough for anyone to feel
  • According to the emails MBB is a perfect miniature of the person we can expect with a tiny face and lovely, proportional limbs.

It's been a quiet time in the Boig household, but this weekend we plan to do a bit more painting in MBBs room and work on setting up the closet - then posting photos will come!

1/2 way there yea yea yea

Disclaimer: The photo to the left has nothing what-so-ever with this blog posting. It's just a cool photo I felt like putting up.

MBB is halfway here! Yesterday marked the first day of week 20 and 20 more weeks to go till MBB's arrival. Things are shifting into high gear with getting the house and our lives ready for our new arrival. But first a recap of the last 20 weeks:

  • We first found out about MBB on January 29th. I was able to wait a whole 15 hours (of running to the doctor to get bloodwork done) before I told Jason. I presented him with a little baby cap that said "I love my Daddy" on it.
  • Then mid February we saw MBB for the first time - looking no bigger than a grain of rice, he/she had a strong heartbeat and was getting ready to grow.
  • I learned all about what to eat and not to eat and in late February realized that although both "soft (creamy)" and "cheese", cream cheese did not count as a soft cheese in the handbook of pregnancy.
  • On March 10th we announced MBB to the world (or at least the greater world of all our friends) and the waiting began for everyone.
  • Also in mid March we had our first visit to the baby super store and was surprised that it was not as bad as we thought (although that might be because it was a local place and not a chain).
  • Late March brought another look at MBB who by that time was looking like a real little person.
  • It was in late March that we also learned the birthing center I planned to go to, as well as my mid-wife's office was closing ASAP. The hunt began for new prenatal care.
  • We were productive in April finding a great baby store in Fredrick MD, ordering our first furniture, hiring a mohel and of course learning that MBB was rubber and a duck in my stomach!
  • This brings us to the last few weeks in May. MBB began to kick and I can feel he/she more every day. We also painted the baby room and learned that even though Jason may be allergic to coconuts he is NOT allergic to his baby!

Wow! What a 20 weeks. Who knows what the rest of this pregnancy has in store. Then here comes MBB - get ready world!!

Oh no Jason is alergic to MBB!

Wriggling around at 6.5 inches, this week MBB is the size of a coconut. I have to say MBB does not feel as heavy as a coconut, but according to this week's email he/she should be as hairy!

Besides that not much more to report than MBB is become more active around the bladder region :). I am hoping in the next few weeks we will be able to feel him/her on the surface. We head back to the midwife early June for a check up (heart beat and check in only), but nothing too big will be coming along for a while.

A recap of the DC Birthing Center as promised:
  • The center currently has six midwives and may be bringing on more in the future including my former midwife from Takoma park.
  • They will NOT be closing anytime soon and have room for me!
  • Two midwives attend every birth which is wonderful and great support.

Jason and I really liked the overview we got when we were there. We got to meet four of the six midwives and hear a lot about their birthing philosophy. Not sure what else folks would like to know about the place so ask some questions and I can provide answers.

Lemonade and Pregnancy - A BAAAAD IDEA

When I became pregnant I read through all the books and websites on what to eat, what not to eat and everything in between. I though I had it all down - no sushi, yes greens; no deli meat, yes lots and lots of water. I didn't think anything could surprise me.

Then last Wednesday night I learned that no matter how careful you are, there are some things that a baby just won't like. For MBB that something is lemonade. After a really fun night out with some friends of ours at one of our favorite local restaurants, started to feel a bit queasy but being pregnant that is a pretty common feeling and I went to bed assuming I would feel better in the morning.

The morning provided additional nausea along with some stomach pain, but I figured I had been pretty lucky for 19 weeks so maybe the newly kicking MBB was still stretching his/her wings. So onto work I went...for about two hours when I decided being home in bed was about the only thing I wanted to be. To keep a long (and kinda gross) story short it was a 24 hours dehydration, upset stomach, neausea festival. So a word of caution to all - find out what your baby doesn't like early and don't drink it!

At least its not rubber!

Back to the land of the Internet! Still not fixed at home, at least I can get online during lunch at work. Hopefully we will be back up this week. The last few days have been really productive, but first the update. According to the email MBB is the size of a Magic 8 ball - I am sure there is some secret answer for us in there.
  • From Monday's ultrasound we know that MBB is a healthy 10 oz and is showing a size of 10 weeks. Right on schedule - the due date they are going with now is Oct 1, although it is sure to change as the baby grows.
  • According to my weekly email, MBB should be about 6 inches long growing steadily each week.
  • MBB is kicking! Very lightly and not that often yet, but it's there. Like a tap tap tap almost - a very cool thing indeed.

Jason is scanning in our ultrasound photos from Monday's appt. so take a look for those in the next day or two. Also a recap of the DC Birthing Center (yeaaa a place to give birth) coming soon!

It is hard to blog when...

...you have no Internet at home. Due to the extreme incompetence of our local Internet provider Comcast we have been down at home since Tuesday night with no end in sight. It's also hard to do research, homework, gift buying or a ton of other things. Amazing how dependent we have become on the Internet.

So on a happier note, I found a local provider of eco-friendly paint for MBB's room and will be going to check out Amicus Green Building Center tonight. Then it's clean out the baby room weekend!

I also heard from a friend of mine, Karen, who is a doula (more on what doula's are and how they are cool in an upcoming blog). She assisted in a birth at the DC Birthing Center that we are checking our on Monday and had a very good experience. So there is hope MBB will have a place to be born yet. The DC center is one of the few left in the area and as of yesterday they are still taking patients so keep your fingers crossed!

Re-reading some of the old blogs I realize I owe a story about pregnancy nose on an airplane. So here goes the short version:
- I thought my pregnancy nose was taking a break as I was smelling pretty normally the last month. Then I got on a plane late at night on the way back from Boulder and it was like all the smells in the world hit me all at one time. The guy two seats over had been drinking AND smoking - which would have been ok if he had at least showered in the past few days! For anyone who knows my "love" of flying this added to the already nervous stomach and reminded me to start bringing clothespins with me on flights. So a warning to all those going into enclosed spaces, please shower first!!

Well at least it's not plastic

Yes, I know I have been slacking this week in the blog writing department. Somehow the second trimester energy surge has yet to reach me even as I get ready to start week 18 tomorrow...

So will try to catch up quickly today and tomorrow. This week MBB is you guessed it a beautiful daisy. Apparently one that we can cradle in the palm of our hand. Other key things...

  • MBB is starting to form finger and footprints....the time to commit a crime is coming to a close.
  • An even 5.5 inches and 5.5 ounces, MBB has put me very much in need of some maternity clothes shopping!

I have been on an exploration to find ecopaint for MBB's room and I finally found a place today that is open late Thursday night. We have set a goal of having the base coat done by the 12th of this month. My uncle has offered to paint a mural in the room once I get the base coat down (matching the bedding you can see on our registry on the left) and with the entire family visting for Jason's graduation on Mother's day weekend, he is just going to stay an extra few days and work on it then.

After hit the half way mark in (WOW!) two weeks we will be stepping up the list of all the things we have to get done and I am guessing hilarity will ensue. OK off for now but a teaser on MBB's first camping trip last weekend coming soon.....
